Head of UGCC on Mother’s Day: Thank you for not having been afraid to accept the gift of motherhood

His Beatitude Sviatoslav, the Father and the Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, congratulated Ukrainian mothers on the Mother’s Day, which is traditionally celebrated in Ukraine on the second Sunday of May.

“Mother is not just a dear and deep word. Mother is a special person in the life of each of us, in the life of each child. Mother not only begins a new life in her womb, but her body becomes the first protection of this life. It’s not easy for a mother to bring a new person to life, she watches over her life, her growth, and her development,” said the Primate, congratulating mothers.

According to him, the Christian mother not only reveals this visible, sensual world to the child, but she also introduces her into the world of angels, into the invisible world, becomes the first teacher of the Christian faith, the first who makes it possible to meet the living Risen Christ. She is the first door to eternity for every child.

“On this holiday I want to warmly congratulate all our mothers. I want to thank you for not having been afraid to accept the gift of motherhood from our Lord. If Ukraine has real sacrificial Christian mothers, then it becomes a mother for all of us,” said His Beatitude Sviatoslav.

“On this day, we pray for you, our dear mothers. We pray for your children to be a source of joy for you, not sorrow. We pray that the burdens of motherhood, the burdens of the Christian upbringing of your children by the power and grace of the Holy Spirit, become this easy yoke of Christ, which you, with the joy of His grace, can complete in union with Him,” said the Primate.

On this day, we bow our heads before you with gratitude in our hearts.

“Let the Blessed Virgin Mary, an icon, a model of a true mother, a mother, which is worshiped in our nation as the Mother of God of relentless help, will be your personal help, teacher, intercessor, and leader. Under her unceasing cover we entrust you and your motherhood,” wished the Head of the UGCC.
