The process of unification of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church of Ukraine is not taking place, said the Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, in an interview with Radio Svoboda.
“There is no merger process. It is not happening. Today, when it comes to the OCU, it is about its communion with other local Orthodox Churches. And that is her priority. We have so far exchanged declarations of willingness to work out a road map,” said the Head of the UGCC.
In the interview, he also talked about relations with the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in unity with the Moscow Patriarchate. When asked about the obstacles in unification processes with the UOC (MP), His Beatitude Sviatoslav replied that there have been many, possibly different, interpretations of history, including the history of the Church.
“When it comes to the UOC (MP), we have very sporadic contacts and no dialogue as such. I have never been able to meet in person with his Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy, although many times we have asked and expressed our wish to do so,” said the Head of the UGCC.
