On January 24, 2020, at the residence of the Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Kyiv, His Beatitude Sviatoslav met with Sviatoslav Vakarchuk, a Ukrainian politician and statesman, leader of the Golos Party, People’s Deputy of Ukraine.
During the meeting, the parties first discussed the importance of values in the life of both the individual and society as a whole. It was emphasized that values create our identity. “What we are, what our foundations are, it will determine what kind of society we will become,” said His Beatitude.
The Primate emphasized that not only universal but Christian values, which are reflected in the social teaching of the Church, are important for Ukraine: respect for the dignity of human life from conception to natural death, family values, etc.
Another topic of discussion was the importance of state institutions in the life of the country. “Of course, state institutions need to be reformed, but this should be done without destroying them. By strengthening state mechanisms, we strengthen our country, and by loosening them, we create a threat to its existence,” said His Beatitude Sviatoslav.
